The awesome co-hosts for the March 6 posting of the IWSG are Kristina Kelly, Miffie Seideman,Jean Davis, and Liza @ Middle Passages!
Have you "played" with AI to write those nasty synopses, or do you refuse to go that route? How do you feel about AI's impact on creative writing? I wouldn’t use AI for synopses. The only thing I’ve asked AI to do is generate lists of words. I need lots of superhero and villain names for my characters, and it seems every name under the sun has already been taken by the Marvel and DC universes. I used to get a great idea, search it, see that it’s already taken, get another idea, search it, see that it’s already taken… Frustrating! Now, I ask AI for a list of name leads that have not been claimed. Sometimes when I search the names, one or two is already in use, but most are free. It saves me a ton of time and headaches!

I had heard that the query to AI has to be very specific. And I'm not surprised you still get some names that aren't usable- since I think the expectations for the technology still exceeds the programming ability (so far, anyway). I haven;t thought about how hward it would be to find an unused name (but yeah, I love Marvel, but they really did have a LOT of characters!). Good luck with your writing.

A tool, to be used with discretion, not a new friend, no original thoughts, but far better and faster at big numbers than we are.

I have a list of all the names I've used, and I have to refer to it to make sure I differ the starting letter. I already messed up a couple times, as book 3 has Cameron and Cera, but those ones are ones I won't budge on.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love the idea of using A.I. for research purposes. I may try that one day.

Now that is a clever idea! Super fast way to do research.

I've never thought of doing a name hunt with a chatbot, but I can see how it could get the ball rolling. I've used name generators on websites for years and doubt there is much of a difference. Thanks for the tip.

That's an interesting use, Kim. I mostly write non-fiction, so I usually don't have to worry about names. Whatever I write, I want it to be my work. I'n not comfortable with the idea of a machine creating for me.

I can see that being a good use of AI. Similar to Loni above, I often catch myself using the same first letter on names or there's another pattern, so I have watch for that.
